I had a little bit of fun on my vacation, and got to do some new things and try out some expensive pistols. This pistol is one of them, and I figured that I would give my impressions on this pistol after shooting a few hundred rounds through it. First thing I will say is that this pistol is sexy looking right out of the box. The action on the pistol is also something that is impressive as well. The slide is perfectly fit on the frame and seems to glide on rollers with next to zero movement when charging the pistol. It is very pleasing to just sit there with the pistol and rack the slide on this pistol and feel it slide like glass. Other than a smooth action, this pistol has loads of unique features seen nowhere else. It uses a full size M9A1 frame and a 92G Vertec slide with a 4.3" barrel. The pistol has decocker-only levers, a D spring, an orange ring tritium front sight, ultra-thin Wilson Combat specific grip panels, and all components are steel. There are alot of other little details to this pistol, but I am just listing the big ones for brevity. In all, this pistol will retail for about $1250. Not a cheap pistol, but it might be a little less in price compared to a 1911 that Wilson Combat offers. When I shot this pistol at the range, the first thing that I noticed was that the grip was indeed slim and the front sight was big and belligerent. The problem with the sight being so big is that I had a hard time calculating where the POI would be for long range targets and even for closer follow-up shots. However, I think it is important to note that this pistol was meant to be feature rich for speed, which means that a big front sight that catches your eye is probably gonna be a bit more advantageous. That said, I think this pistol will give you speed, but the accuracy with that speed may be limited to short range engagements until you get the POI figured out. So, where would this gun fit into my collection, if I were to just find $1300 just sitting around under a couch cushion? Personally, I would say that this gun would make an alright home defense gun since it has a light rail on it. I would slap a Streamlight TLR-7 on the rail system and set it right on my nightstand. Heck, I would also feel fine with it being a house gun as well. I would say that it would also probably serve well in a vehicle if you put the right loads in it for vehicle barriers. Heck, you could use it as a carry gun if you really want to, but I doubt that you will get a replacement if you have to use it to defend yourself. It will most likely become an expensive dust magnet in some evidence locker room. Of course, it all depends on what happened and what the department policy is when it comes to civilians using deadly force with a firearm. With all that said, I wouldn't get one of these pistols if I had the cash on hand. The biggest reason for me is because I spent more time just figuring out the sights and I also think that I would rather just buy $1300 worth of ammo and shoot it through a stock Beretta that is just a plain Jane workhorse. This pistol was an oddball Beretta to me, but some people may very well like it. Remember, I am that weird guy who would carry a SCCY CPX-2 over an M&P Shield, so don't take my opinion as advise. It is merely an opinion that is based on MY experiences, MY biases, MY judgments. So, I would kindly ask you to make your own.
