Gun Magnets: Practical Or Niche?

My first experience with a gun magnet was when I got one in my Gunner Crate shipment. I really recommend getting the Gunner Crate shipments as a gift or monthly since almost everything is just a terrific value. Anyways, the things the gun magnets are advertised for is something I want to evaluate to see if it truly is as handy as it claims.

The gun magnets are advertised to be good for attaching to a safe door, under desks, on walls and in vehicles. I am not so sure about using the magnet anywhere near electronics since magnets can destroy them. I would be worried about using it on desks, in vehicles, or in safes since your phone may get screwed up going near this obviously strong magnetic field.

The magnet is supposed to be capable of holding up to 15 pounds, and obviously is capable of at least holding up a rifle that weighs around 8 pounds. The PTR91 is not so easy for the magnet to hold on the wall due to the fact that the PTR is shearing off the magnet with its full weight. ​Personally, this doesn't surprise me that the magnet can't hold up a heavy 308 rifle like the PTR in that manner, so I'm not too upset about that. 

The provided screws I got for the magnet mounting bracket were useless, as with the zinc-plated steel bracket itself. The screws pulled right out of the Sheetrock, and probably would have done the same with a wood surface since the thread pitch was terribly small. I don't see the point in mounting the pistol to a magnet that stays on the pistol and has to be manually removed. For these reasons, I got 1 1/2" screws and simply screwed the magnet itself into the wall stud. This is just my experience with the gun magnet I got.

I like the concept and the ability to have a pistol loaded and ready to go on a wall. I tend to like that kind of placement rather that having to find a place on a desk that is out of the way but still in a convenient position for a quick response. The good thing about placing a pistol on the wall, for me, is that it doesn't clutter up my work space and it is generally safer since I can't really knock the pistol off the wall when it is mounted on the strong magnet. Also, it is a good thing that it is harder for hair to get to my pistol.

The only issue I have with magnets is that it is kinda limited in it's practicality and versatility due to the heavy presence of electronics in my life that would be sensitive to magnetic fields. Magnets are not completely useless, but they are restricted to wall staging, which is pretty important still. I like the simple use it has for me, and the convenience it provides, but I wish it could do more without the risk of disabling or damaging my electronics. Still, I just wish I had more to use around the house.
