There is a new pistol coming to the market in late 2018 known as the Lionheart Regulus. This is actually a series of pistols with customizable options like frame and slide sizes, sights, different color frames and barrels, etc. This pistol is not by any means meant to compete with low cost pistols from Ruger or Taurus, but rather to go in line with high end options on the market like Wilson Combat, Zev, and others.. The Lionheart Regulus was developed to be the highest quality offering possible in the DP51/K5/LH9 pistol family. The South Korean DP51/K5 service pistols were inherently accurate, reliable, durable, ergonomic, and easy to shoot. These qualities carried over to the LH9 series of pistols that Lionheart had imported through S&T Motiv, with a few modifications to make the pistols more American-friendly. After over 5 years of importing the LH9 series of pistols, Lionheart felt that it was time to bring the design to America where they had full control of the design and manufacturing. The Regulus has a number of changes, but it has retained all the things that made this pistol a great shooter. The unique Double Action Plus trigger system of the LH9 has been carried over into the Regulus. The ergonomic grip design seen on the LH9 is carried over to the Regulus, but with a few upgrades. The internal components of the Regulus are basically identical in dimension to the LH9 components, but with a few refinements. Overall, these key parts of the pistol didn't need much or any change. However, there were plenty of things that could use a change in order to enhance the shooting experience, and that is what Lionheart focused on. The Regulus has alot of design improvements over the older LH9. Things like the Tru-Axis barrel are there to maximize the accuracy of this inherently accurate pistol. The improved Aluminum frame that is made from forged 7075 T651 is a bit stronger than the previous forged 7075 T6 frames, and it promises greater frame strength and longevity. In fact, the frame, slide, and barrel are all forged for maximum strength and durability. All Regulus frames will come standard with a Picatinny rail. The improved grip panels are more comfortable and lower the aggressive nature of the more aggressive LH9 grips. The front and backstraps are machined in a diamond pattern, offering a better hold on the pistol without being too aggressive. Also, the sights on the Regulus are cut to fit 1911 Novak sights so you have almost limitless options. Lastly, the magwell of the Regulus was altered to fit Beretta 92FS magazine bodies, but the locking point was changed to lock into the Regulus. The Pistols will ship with two 18 round magazines. The DP51/S&W 5906 magazines still work in this pistol, though. There are other improvements and changes, but these are the highlights that separate this pistol from the previous models. The Regulus was designed to not only be modular, but also compatible with most parts on the LH9/DP51 pistols. As far as being modular, you will have a few options for slide and frame sizes. You will first choose between an Alpha and Beta frame. The Alpha frame is roughly the same size as the standard LH9 frame while the Beta is the same size as the LH9C(Compact)frame with no palm swell. After you select the frame, you will be able to choose between a short and long slide. The short slide will give you a 3.6" barrel while the long slide will give you a 4.1" barrel. The slide will come with a black E-Series Cerakote while the frames come in 4 E-Cerakote colors(FDE, Black, Grey, White). The barrels will have 3 color options with the Titanium Nitride finish(Grey, Black, Gold). The Lionheart Regulus is not going to be an inexpensive pistol, as I noted earlier. You are looking at a base MSRP of just under $1600 for the Alpha and Beta pistols. There is no charge for choosing frame and barrel colors. You will have the option to upgrade to a threaded barrel, add medallions to the grip panels, and choose different sights. If you were to outfit this pistol with all the additions and most expensive options, you would still be under $1800 out the door. This may seem like alot to spend on a pistol, but when you look at all that you are getting in terms of options and features, this pistol offers more than many other pistols on the market in the same price range.
