Books can be a great way to expand your views and ideas when it comes to training. Many authors are very experienced and have trained people for decades on how to win in a gunfight. This book is not only catered to men, but also goes into detail about how female shooters can train for a gunfight. This book tells you exactly what it is all about in its' title. It is a basic introduction to the foundational skills that can teach you to survive a gunfight. The author starts the book off right by discussing the mental conditioning that must be integrated in ones training and life in order to be prepared to fight at a moments notice. The points he lays out are very true in my experience and I recommend that those who read it, take to what is said with an open mind. As you can see, there is alot of topics covered, just in the first chapter. And there is a good variety of material that is covered in this book. Talk about a well rounded book. Not all the subjects are necessary, and not all the ideas are sound, but overall this book covers alot of ground in its 600 pages. The thing you will notice in the beginning of the book is that the author is going to use the Glock to discuss everything from pistol manipulation to maintenance. Now this isn't such a bad thing, as the Glock is simple, and easy to understand, but it does get a little dry when it goes into parts and specifics on how to use the trigger. The book seems to lack in lessons learned for those who would rather opt for a double action pistol. It would be impossible for me to go over more than I already have without writing a book about this book. Basically, this is one of my favorite books that discusses a broad range of subjects that are not normally covered by instructors in the military or civilian training sectors. It is a good read for the most part, with a good variety of black and white photos to help illustrate positions and give visual support to the suggestions that the author is making.
Overall, a good choice for those interested in broadening their skills and learning from another mans' experience.
