It is fairly common for you to hear people talk about having cases of MREs in a tone that is on the border of bragging. Some people feel that military rations are so high-tech and perfect for those wanting to survive. Most of this is due to the variety and the fact that you can get alot of calories with little work. However, there is alot more to MREs than just a bit of variety in high caloric foods.
A book I had tried to read over a decade ago, The Killer Angels is still on the Marine Corps reading list, and it is understandable why once you get through with the book. This is a Civil War Novel that mainly follows the Generals involved in the Battle of Gettysburg. In fact, the old movie "Gettysburg" is heavily based on this book. I can understand why that book had such a heavy input on the movie as it is a vivid piece of writing that tells more than the reader may expect.
Throughout history, we see examples of how important it is to have soldiers with terrific physical endurance. Endurance is arguably more important than just being able to lift alot or run fast. You need to be able to carry your combat load to the fight, fight all the way through, and continue fighting without slowing down. Endurance is a quality that always has room for improvement and can only benefit you in the long run.
