Around the middle of June, 2022 I completed my move out of Alaska and into my new house in Arkansas. I am not fully setup in my new place yet, but I have most of the basics covered, to include internet. There is a lot to do and a lot that I am planning on doing here once things settle. SUBURBAN LIFE I had a decent sized house in Alaska with enough land to have a functional short range shooting spot also. It came with its own burdens, but now I have no such amenity. I have switched gears to being in a suburban neighborhood in Northeast Arkansas amongst family homes. This neighborhood is still under construction and is only going to get larger as the years go by. But I made sure to get a cedar fence installed almost right away (I am the only one with cedar so far) to keep my dogs contained and give me some privacy as I train outside. It is different living in a neighborhood but it seems really quiet and safe so far, so i think I will ultimately enjoy my time here as a homeowner. The house I bought is very nice and has vast amounts of potential for new and exciting experiences. It may not be all that bad being in a suburban neighborhood, at this rate. FIRST IMPRESSIONS MATTER In other areas I have lived, people have noticed my military demeanor by how I carry myself. This was because most areas I lived in had a military base nearby for civilians to have an example of military haircuts, dress, demeanors, etc. In Northeast Arkansas there are no such examples, so the standard assumption is that one is a part of some local Law Enforcement. Some people in town have assumed that I am in Law Enforcement due to the way I dress, my haircut, and how I carry myself. People seem to be distrusting of Law Enforcement in the area and rumors have already reached my ear about a slightly tarnished reputation they have within the county. "Might be time to change my haircut if I don't want to continue receiving the stink eyes from people. Meh, they can get over themselves." RANGE ISSUE Being that I refuse to use public ranges that only allow static shooting (Training to imitate the targets you practice on) I am looking for either someone to shoot with who has land, or to purchase land outright and set up a new range. A subject for another time. SECURITY ISSUE Being that security is a big topic for me, I have been working to establish effective passive security measures as well as active measures. I will have plenty of subjects for videos and articles in the future in regards to this topic, so stay tuned. TRYING NEW THINGS Not only have I changed locations, but I have also changed living conditions as well. I have a bigger office, a gunroom, and a training area. All the areas in this current house are bigger than the last house and that means I have more opportunities to try out new furniture, concepts of security, etc. I am happy to see that i can easily access my attic and run cables for cameras and do any modifications necessary to repair/enhance my home. GETTING MY BEARINGS Since I am still new to this area, my vehicle is going to see a good amount of miles put on it just so I can learn the layout of the cities and where everything important is. This is going to take some time, but i am looking forward to making connections and getting acquainted with my new area. There is plenty of little projects left to do, so I will have to find time for them while I get my bearings on my current environment.
