Places like One Shepherd are great examples of how learning light infantry tactics is less about LARPing and more about learning to be a thinker, a leader, and a good team player. If you think about it, civilians have access to most of what a light infantry unit would have access to, to include the training. If it came down to it, I am sure that civilians could easily fill the role of a light infantry unit. It clearly states in the second amendment that a well-regulated militia is necessary. I don’t understand how it’s fine when we train for concealed carry and clearing our homes, but get shunned for training to fend off invasion, tyranny, or mass terrorism. The tactics we learn for concealed carry and home defense directly draw from military and LE. This just means that we take what works and apply it to our training and practice in case we need it. Having more capabilities only broadens your readiness and ability to adapt and even grow as a person. MILITIAMAN The militiaman is not an island, but rather an individual serving 'as a part' of a paramilitary force, or milita. He/she may serve in logistics, scouting, or other support roles. Each person will have a specific role based on their capabilities and possibly their line of civilian work. The ideal militiaman spends time cross-training and expanding their mobility, tactical, and logistics assets and capabilities. Militiamen, much like their military counterparts, know their team and tend to depend on that team in order to make decisions and function as part of the greater whole. Each member of the militia, like members of the military, should be capable of performing in a light infantry role. MINUTEMAN A minuteman is a regular civilian that is ready to take up arms in defense of their community. This is a last ditch defense, but the hope is that there will be dozens of minutemen that will be able to unite to quell any issues that threaten the community. By definition, minutemen are people that have day jobs and do not fancy themselves as part of a militia. The minuteman is not part of a preorganized group, but should be good at working in a team setting, be adaptable, and be tactically sound. If the need arises for ordinary folks to take up arms, wouldn't it be advantageous for these individuals to have an understanding of light infantry tactics and even have leadership skills? Also look at Israel and Switzerland as examples. Every fighting age citizen may have to take up arms and defend their community or country in the case of an invasion. In these countries, every adult is required to serve a minimum amount of time in the military or police where they learn basic light infantry tactics. We as Americans pride ourselves on having an armed American behind every blade of grass, but you can't truly claim to be armed and ready if you don't even know how to fight an armed enemy. A trained minuteman is what our enemies ultimately fear. THE AVERAGE JOE Not everybody wants to carry a gun or fight in a war, but when training to fight in a light infantry fashion, the average joe can learn much. When functioning in a light infantry unit, you will learn how to work as a team, how to adapt to unexpected situations and failed plans. You will learn how to plan, lead, follow, and how to become organized and detail-oriented. These are good characteristics, and really, it can be fun to experience how we go about operating in a combat environment. It can be challenging, engaging, and rewarding. Why wouldn't you want to participate in this kind of training. To wrap-up, tactical training is not something that should be reserved for government pawns. If you have guns, you are well within your rights to know how to use them. I would even go as far as to say that it is your obligation to learn as much as you can and strive to have max proficiency. This obviates the need for conducting training in all categories to include light infantry tactics. Other than that, I have no opinion. |
