After about a year of hoping and waiting, I finally stumbled upon the 2.0 version of the M&P40C in a local gun shop and snagged it up. If you read my articles about the first generation M&P40C, you will know that I had quite an affection for that model. Unfortunately, the slide would go home automatically when I would conduct a speed reload, causing a stoppage in the process. The grip was also quite slick and made handling iffy, even in the early 9mm model I had years ago. Luckily the 2.0 version of this pistol has resolved the issues this pistol had, making it once again a contender for my heart. Just so you know, I have not spent all that much time with this pistol but it has fit into my carry and practice rotation like a glove and required no real retraining and adaptation. That is why it is already worthy of an overview. SIZE As with the original model, the 2.0 subcompact is pretty much the perfect size. Aside from it lacking a 4" barrel and requiring a pinky extension for a full grip, it does a great job staying short and compact like the Shield. GRIP The grip on the subcompact really fixed the issue I had with slippage. I think that the ability to get a secure hold also helped with making the recoil feel more tame. But that could have something to do with how the frame has been further reinforced in this model as well. PERFORMANCE As with the first generation, I can tell that I am much better off using the pinky extension. The tiny grip just does not seem to work without a bit more practice than I am currently applying. Unfortunately there are just other projects I am working on that take priority. The recoil feels like so much less than the original and not much different than the compact model I love to shoot as a replacement for the Glock 23. WRAP UP There really is not that much to say other than the improvements are great. I plan on getting some fiber optics for this baby in order to really top it off. Excellent carry gun that is not only easy to shoot well, but easy to take with you anywhere. Now if only someone made a holster that worked for this having a weapon light attached. |
