My love for bullpups started before I even had experience using a firearm. I liked the looks of the British L85 rifles. The green furniture of the rifle and the compact, aggressive look made it oh so appealing. After I joined the military and had experience with using an M16/M4 to clear urban environments, I realized that having a rifle dangling out in front of me did not fill me with alot of confidence. This brings me to why I opted for a bullpup when I got out.
There are several reasons why someone may find a bullpup to be appealing. For me, I was aware of the drawbacks that I would be facing when I transitioned to them. But upon my analysis of the perceived and claimed drawbacks, I found that very few of them had real merit as a legitimate criticism of the rifles' practical ability.
One of the criticisms placed on a bullpup is that they are not the fastest to reload. I not only found this false, but I found that it was started by people who had little to no experience with them. With little time on the rifle, I found that the bullpup reloads were generally more intuitive.

The biggest and most consistent criticisms towards the bullpup platform is that they all have heavy and terrible triggers that render the guns unshootable. It is true that these rifles typically sport heavy trigger pulls. I know that there are some reasons for the heavy triggers to include passing safety tests, sloppy fitting with the transfer bar(s), etc.
In general, this critique is made by people with very little time behind these rifles. If the critics shot their rifles as much as they badmouth them, they may find that the trigger pulls become much nicer as they use them. For example, my Tavor actually now has a trigger pull of 6-8 pounds after over 5000 rounds. The original trigger pull came in around 10 pounds, if not more. I found that lubrication and usage were the best ways to lower your trigger pull weight.

There are many critiques people have about bullpups, but I assure you that most of them are based off of ignorance and inexperience. Many countries have successfully used bullpups and continue to use them. Aside from the fact that bullpups are a proven concept, no one needs to justify their purchase to those with dogmatic tendencies due to their desire to cling to the cool crowd. I encourage you to break free and join the growing underdog community. Join the bullpup community and find out why people love them.
